About Us
Central Jersey Legal Services is a nonprofit legal aid program that provides free comprehensive civil legal services to low-income residents of Mercer, Middlesex, and Union Counties.

CJLS uses the law to ensure that systems meant to help struggling families are working and accessible. Our attorneys and paralegals provide clients the legal help they need when faced with life-changing situations like domestic violence, unlawful eviction, or the loss of health benefits.
CJLS began as The Legal Aid Society of Mercer County, founded in 1948 to make the legal system more accessible to low-income people and even the playing field for those who could not otherwise afford an attorney. Middlesex County Legal Services Corp, founded in 1966, and Union County Legal Services Corp, founded in 1967, joined with us in 2003 to form Central Jersey Legal Services. CJLS has worked toward a vision of equal access to justice for all New Jerseyans for more than seventy-five years.

CJLS envisions a civil justice system where no one is disadvantaged by income and equal justice under the law is more than just a promise.
